Charles David Viera is currently offering a variety of classes through the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton and the Arts Council of Princeton in Princeton and Hunterdon County Parks and Recreation.

103 Advanced Painting and Drawing                         NEW

Students are presented with a diversity of projects that lend themselves to various interpretations. Still life arrangements as well as five sessions with live portrait and nude models are offered. Open to students of all media with some previous instruction. All styles, approaches and independent projects are encouraged .Instruction offered via group individual critiques. Please bring your favorite medium to first session. Model fee: approx. $40

 982 Beginner Painting and Drawing

This course offers supportive instruction for students with little or no experience. After an introductory session in drawing, students progress to the study of painting with the support of the instructor. Instruction in color theory, composition and the proper use of materials via group and individual critiques is included. Students may work in pastels, oil, acrylic or watercolor paints. Please bring drawing materials to first class. Model fee: $5

971 Beginner Acrylic and Watercolor Painting        NEW

  In this basic course students are introduced to the pristine and delicate qualities of watercolors and the vibrant colors of acrylic paints. After an introductory drawing session students explore the many possibilities of color via diverse still life arrangements and other references. The proper use of materials is examined. Instruction is offered via group and individual critiques and demonstrations in a supportive environment. Please bring drawing materials to first class.

984 Portrait and Figure Painting

The subtleties presented by the human figure have been the inspiration and learning tool for artists through out history. This intensive course offers students of all levels the opportunity to learn aspects of figure and portrait painting. After introductory sessions in drawing, students will be encouraged to work in the color medium of their choice. Instruction in proportion, color theory as it relates to flesh tone, elements of human anatomy, and creating a likeness are all included via group and individual critique, along with basic and advanced principles of figure painting. No nude models. Bring drawing materials to first session.

Model fee: approx. $40

Comic Book Illustration & Writing   Ages 10 and up
Hone your skills as a comic book artist! Focus on the world of comic book, or sequential art. Develop characters, story plots and inventive stories while sharpening drawing and writing skills. Practice techniques used by pros to create comics and graphic novels, and experiment with penciling, inking, lettering and the use of color. All work is compiled into a finished comic

The basis of all success in art is good drawing skills. Students wishing to improve their skills in comic book illustration and fine arts will gain a basic understanding and confidence in their use of line, value, and composition through fun and informative assignments. Students work from a variety references in pencil, charcoal and ink with a patient instructor in a supportive environment. (Parents please note: students will learn to draw the human figure by using lifelike nude male and female casts).

BEGINNER COMIC ART

Date: Eight Tuesdays, 9/29 - 11/24 (skip 10/13)

Time: 5:45 PM to 6:45 PM

Location: Arboretum

Cost: $108 Includes materials

Ages: 8 - 10

Students learn to draw their favorite comic and

cartoon characters and create their own characters

with many of the techniques used by the pros. Creating

facial expressions and other storytelling techniques

are also included in this fun class. Students work with

pencil and ink.
